Seed Projects we like:

Space Plant Lab

University of Florida plant molecular biologists Robert Ferl and Anna-Lisa Paul lead a team focused on growing plants in space environments. Join them as they study plants currently on the International Space Station.

Hudson Valley Farm Hub

Fostering an Equitable and Ecologically Resilient Food System in the Hudson Valley. The Hudson Valley Farm Hub is a non-profit center for regenerative agriculture located on 1,500 acres of prime farmland in Hurley, NY. We provide professional farmer training, host and support agricultural research, and serve as an educational resource for advances in food and farming. They are in partnership with a few indigenous seed-keeping groups, which you can learn more about on their seed-growing page.

Nashville Public Library Seed Exchange

The Seed Exchange offers access to local librarians who will support, coach, and cheer you on as you grow your own home, school, church, or community garden. The best part about our Seed Exchange: it’s free! All you need is a library card. The library is always looking for donations of materials, seeds, books, and volunteers and you may also donate to their foundation NPLF.

Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian

A diverse and multifaceted cultural and educational enterprise, the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) is an active and visible component of the Smithsonian Institution, the world's largest museum complex. The NMAI cares for one of the world's most expansive collections of Native artifacts, including objects, photographs, archives, and media covering the entire Western Hemisphere, from the Arctic Circle to Tierra del Fuego. Check out this search term on all of the projects on their website I could find related to seeds. You may donate to the museum to help them continue to fund local seed-keeping initiatives. They have a variety of giving options including IRAs and gift planning.

NYC Parks Seed Collecting and Banking

The GNPC’s Seed Collection and Banking Program reflects our mission to grow native plants for New York City projects using only local ecotypes. We collect and store seeds only from native plant populations in the NYC metropolitan region. Healthy populations are sought out as close to home as possible within the 25 counties that cover a 100-mile radius of NYC. This area represents nine counties in New York State including the five boroughs, 14 counties in New Jersey, and one county in Connecticut. Their bank currently reports: Currently, our seed bank contains approximately 2,600 collections representing 600 species. You can donate to NYC Parks, and mention you would like to support the seed bank and seed-collecting activities.

Nyack Seed Exchange

Nyack Seed Exchange is a place for gardeners to share seeds and experience, to learn about seed saving, to become better gardeners, and to build community. Seeds are available for checkout; we ask gardeners to save seed from plants that are easy for seed save, such as tomatoes, peas, beans, and lettuce. Members are encouraged to return saved and store-bought seed to replenish our collections. As members learn more about seed saving, they might want to try seed saving from plants categorized as "Advanced."  You can also donate to the seed exchange on their information page. While you are at the Nyack Library website, check out one of their museum passes, all you need is a library card and you can see some art for free as well.

Experimental Farm Network

The Experimental Farm Network (EFN) works to facilitate collaborative plant breeding and sustainable agriculture research in order to fight global climate change, preserve the natural environment, and ensure food security for humanity into the distant future. We believe participatory plant breeding on a massive scale can lead to breakthroughs to help us not only adapt to climate change, but one day actually stabilize the climate. Their donate button is at the bottom of all of their site’s pages.

Peace Seedlings

We grow everything organikally, the K is for know your farmer and know your source.   All seeds are not chemically treated, non GMO,  no use of any pesticides or herbicides or ground plastic and grown using minimal organic fertilizer.  All varieties are bred and selected by us, open-pollinated and public domain, some very new,  and others very old,  trusted selected heirlooms.  Squash and zucchini  are hand pollinated to insure true cultivars. In our continuing work of preserving heirlooms at the same time as breeding new varieties, occasional crossing happens (less then 1%).  So, occasional rogue plants can happen in a seed batch.   We strive to preserve the lines we offer but evolution is always in process.  Thanks for gardening and being part of this process. You may purchase seeds from this website to plant and continue using heirloom seeds in your area.

True Love Seeds

Truelove Seeds is a farm-based seed company offering culturally important and open pollinated vegetable, herb, and flower seeds. Our seeds are grown by more than 50 small-scale urban and rural farmers committed to community food sovereignty, cultural preservation, and sustainable agriculture. We share our profits directly with our growers: 50% of each packet sale goes back to the farmer who grew it! You can buy a wide variety of seeds to grow in your own garden, farm, or community garden or donate to True Love Seeds.

UJAMAA Cooperative Farming Alliance

The Ujamaa Cooperative Farming Alliance (UCFA), a program under the non-profit STEAM ONWARD, is a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) led collective. We recognize the need for increased diversity in farming in general, and diversity in the $15 billion dollar U.S. seed industry in particular. We are committed to providing increased opportunities and support for growers from equity-seeking communities. To this end, the Ujamaa Cooperative Farming Alliance is working to bridge the gap between prospective growers and seed companies. You can purchase their many seeds to use in your own gardens, farms, and community gardening projects or donate to UCFA.
